JeffCo is our district. I doubt there are 61 trans-girls in the entire district. There sure aren’t a visible minority playing sports. Know what BOYS are on the girls team rosters? Mascots, trainers, helpers of various types associated with sports. I am glad we’re fighting the Federal government about their decision to pull funding.
If you’re curious about things you hear about Colorado, I am happy to try to tell you what I SEE here.
For example, I could tell you that Aurora, was NOT ever overrun by Venezuelan gangs. We have spent a fair bit of time in Aurora because there are medical complexities in my family and it has the best hospitals. One of the places you heard about was right next to CU hospital. We’ve eaten phenomenal Mexican food right across the street from the location. It was a cheaper apartment building in an area where fancy buildings were going in. Make of that what you will.
I can tell you that vote by mail is amazing. It makes voting more accessible and easier to do in an informed manner. It’s actually more difficult to tamper with than the machines. And most of us drop our signed, sealed ballots directly into the ballot box. We get them in the mail, we fill them out at home – where we can pull up voting records for candidates – and then we drop them directly into the ballot box. It’s really just a paper ballot that goes into a big metal box. It’s super old school. I will admit that the concept weirded me out initially but now that I have it, it’s my favorite way to vote ever. And based on everything I know about it and have experienced, it’s the most secure.
I have little patience for ignorance and bigotry so I’m not volunteering to take on those conversations. I am offering to answer yes, no & I don’t know when you hear something about Colorado. I am as vulnerable to confirmation bias as most people but I’m more uncomfortable lying than having my beliefs upended so I’m okay telling you something is true (or not) even if it doesn’t uphold what I believe. For example, and all the things I learned and thought about it over the years would need its own post, but I have changed my entire mindset towards hunting since I moved here. Hunters here do a good job protecting our wildlife and open spaces. I am grateful to them for that.
